ANSWERS TO MOST FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT
SCS PRESSURE WASHERS

  1. How do I know if I need a cold water pressure washer or a hot water pressure washer?
  2. Cold pressure washers are best used to clean dirt with or without small amounts of oil and grease. Hot pressure washers are best if significant amounts of oil or grease are present or if some heat reactive substance is being cleaned.

  3. How do I determine what size (PSI and GPM) SCS washer I need?

Three factors usually govern the selection of pressure washer size (performance rating).

  • Difficulty of the cleaning job. How difficult is it to remove the contamination from the object being cleaned.

  • Frequency of use. The more the machine is used, the higher the ratings should be to increase efficiency and minimize cleaning time.

  • Cost. The higher the performance rating, the higher the cost. Also, hot high-pressure washers are more sophisticated and more costly than cold high-pressure washers.

  1. Can I run hot water into an SCS pressure washer?
  2. All models of SCS pressure washers will accept hot water feed if equipped with the proper accessory devices. See SCS Technical Bulletin Number 1168 for a full explanation.

  3. Can I get a 2000-PSI or larger pressure washer that operates on 110-120 volts?
  4. Power requirements (voltage and amperage) are determined by motor size. The highest rating that can be operated on normal 110-120 volt electrical circuits is 2 GPM/1400 PSI which uses a 2 HP motor.

  5. I do not understand the electrical power supply requirements on your different models. Please explain.

Each model has a "standard" voltage and phase listed in the specifications for that model. However, other power ratings are optionally available on all models. The standard electrical ratings are:

110 – 120 volts

230 volts/1 phase

230 volts/3 phase

460 volts/3 phase

  1. Why are your prices somewhat higher than models with the same pressure/flow ratings and horsepower that I see in home centers, retail stores, discount stores, tool outlets and catalogs?
  2. SCS only manufacturers top quality industrial/commercial pressure washers that are designed for heavy-duty use, maximum reliability, durability and long life. Pressure washers from sources mentioned above are generally built for lowest possible price and are suitable only for lighter duty applications and intermittent use due to lower quality levels.

  3. Can SCS pressure washers be used for phosphatizing?
  4. All SCS hot pressure washers are superior phosphatizing systems when equipped with the available optional phosphatizing system accessories.

  5. How can I be sure that I can get replacement parts, if needed?
  6. SCS has been in business for 31 years and guarantees immediate availability of replacement parts for a minimum of ten (10) years from date of manufacture.

  7. I have an unusual application and I don’t believe that any of your standard models will meet the need. What can I do?
  8. Contact SCS Application Engineering Department at 800.252.0202. One of our experienced application engineers will evaluate your application and will promptly provide a detailed quotation for the most cost-effective solution.

  9. How long will it take to get an SCS pressure washer?
  10. Most popular models are in factory stock for immediate shipment. However, lead times can vary with the timing of the order. During busy times smaller models can take about one week and larger models two weeks or more.

  11. What accessories are available for SCS washers?
  12. There is a wide range of special purpose accessories available. For information on non-listed accessories, contact SCS Customer Service Department.

  13. If I get a cold water high-pressure washer, can I later add heating capability and upgrade to a hot high-pressure washer?
  14. An SCS heater module can be used with any SCS cold high-pressure washer. The outlet of the pressure washer is connected to the inlet of the heater. The pressure washer hose and gun is connected to the outlet of the heater. The heater starts and stops automatically with the trigger gun activation to heat the water to final temperatures ranging from 160Ί F to 300Ί F.

  15. Do SCS washers have detergent chemical injection systems? How do they work?
  16. All SCS cold water washers are standard equipped with chemical downstream injectors which allow the chemical to be applied with a soft low pressure spray and removed with high pressure clear water. All SCS hot washers/steam cleaners are standard equipped with upstream injection which allows the chemical to be applied with high-pressure washer. There are many alternatives available for non-standard applications. For more information contact SCS Customer Service Department at 336.996.5585.

  17. What spare parts should I keep on hand for SCS washers?
  18. For most applications in the USA it is not necessary to keep spare parts. All parts and components in SCS washers are American standard and are either available locally or from SCS factory stock. SCS guarantees immediate availability of spare parts in factory stock for a minimum of ten (10) years from date of manufacture. Parts can be shipped overnight to any U.S. airport location.

For critical applications, contact SCS Customer Service Department at 800.252.0202 for parts stock recommendations related to specific applications.

  19. Can I use recycled or non-potable water in an SCS washer?

Yes, but the water must not be acidic (below 7.0 PH) and must be filtered to 5 microns. All SCS models can be optionally equipped with special filters to meet this requirement.
